GOMA FIRE & EMERGENCY RESPONSE CENTER

Building the Future of Emergency Services in North Kivu Every resilient city depends on infrastructure designed to protect its people.

The Goma Fire & Emergency Response Center was envisioned as the first modern fire station serving both the city of Goma and the Province of North Kivu, marking an important milestone in strengthening emergency response capacity in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. More than a building, the project represents a long-term investment in public safety, disaster preparedness and institutional resilience. Fire stations are among the most demanding public facilities. They must operate continuously, respond within minutes and support emergency teams under the most critical conditions. The project was therefore designed around operational efficiency, rapid deployment and functional organization, integrating spaces dedicated to emergency response, vehicle storage, technical support, administration, training and staff accommodation. Every architectural and engineering decision was guided by one objective: Helping emergency services save lives. Following the completion of the design phase, construction activities officially commenced. Foundation works were successfully executed and the first structural elements had already emerged on site. In parallel, several specialized components and equipment were manufactured through international project partners in preparation for the next construction phases. Due to the security situation affecting North Kivu, construction activities have been temporarily suspended. The project remains an important strategic investment, with technical studies completed, construction initiated and key materials prepared for future implementation when conditions allow. Public infrastructure is measured not only by what it builds, but by what it protects. At IKAS GLOBAL, we believe that architecture can strengthen institutions, improve emergency preparedness and contribute to safer, more resilient communities. Because some buildings are designed not simply to serve cities… …but to protect them. “The strongest infrastructure is the one people hope they never need, yet can always rely on.”
