NDELO MASIKIDI COMMUNITY COURT

For years, this public court had gradually deteriorated, limiting its ability to serve the young people of Matete. More than a sports facility, it had once been a place where friendships were built, talent was discovered and the community came together. Our mission was not simply to renovate a court. It was to restore an important public space to the community. At IKAS GLOBAL, we believe that quality public spaces are essential to healthy cities. Sport has the power to educate, unite and inspire. This project was therefore conceived as an investment in people before being an investment in infrastructure. Every technical decision sought one objective: To create a court that young athletes could be proud to call their own. The rehabilitation included a complete reconstruction of the playing surface to meet modern performance standards. The project involved: * Construction of a new reinforced concrete slab to ensure durability and long-term structural performance. * Application of a high-performance epoxy sports surface providing safety, comfort and consistent playing conditions. * Installation of new basketball goals and backboards compliant with international FIBA standards. * Construction of a compact spectator stand, creating a welcoming environment for players, families and the wider community. Together, these interventions transformed an abandoned facility into a vibrant public space designed for both competition and everyday community life. Public architecture is successful when it brings people back. Today, the Ndelo Masikidi Court is once again a place where young people train, compete and gather. The project demonstrates that relatively modest interventions can generate meaningful social impact when they are designed with care and purpose. Cities need more than buildings. They need places where communities grow.
